Introducing Brandi Townsend

Americas South and North has a new author joining us. Brandi Townsend is a PhD Candidate in History at the University of Maryland, College Park, specializing in Latin America and the history of women, gender, and sexuality.  She currently resides in Santiago, Chile, where she is conducting her dissertation research on the relationship between gender and memory under the Pinochet dictatorship and the transition to democracy in Chile. Her first post is already up, and it’s a great discussion of birth control and women’s rights in Chile, one that has some important parallels to the current climate in the United States, so be sure to check it out. It’s great to have her join us, and we look forward to posts from her going forward!
